The Studio for Tap and Step Dancing in Wiesbaden

n April 2005, the Fiddle & Feet School of Dancing found a home of its own in Winkeler Straße, Wiesbaden — and for ten years, musical feet have been dancing their way around the globe here. In August 2015 the dance school moved into its new premises in Dantestrasse: The tap dance inferno continues! Our passion for rhythmic footwork still leads us around the globe, with regular classes in Irish dancing and American jazz tap. Three-hour and five-hour specials and weekend workshops cover other percussive dance forms such as Appalachian flatfooting and Cape Breton stepdancing, as well as specific dancers' topics.
Our emphasis in all classes is to acquire the abilities to perform these percussive dances on stage: Our students have regular performances.
In June 2021, we started a hybrid form of teaching: So if you don't live in the area, you can still take part online!

Our Philosophy

For us, tap dancing is far more than just movement with a few sounds. In tap dancing, the dancer becomes a musician; the dance becomes audible, and the music becomes visible. Tap dancing is therefore an artistic means of expressing one's own heartbeat, creatively uniting body and soul across the senses, and conveying this to an audience in a way that catches the eye and the ear. For the tap dancer themselves, it is a very authentic form of personal expression.
Which percussive dance style is used as a vehicle for this process is not relevant: American tap or Irish step dancing, or regional variants such as Cape Breton step dancing or flatfooting all provide the means for it. What's important is learning the skills that enable and give the dancers the confidence to communicate with the audience: dance techniques, musical knowledge, an understanding of stylistic differences and the means of expression available on stage.
In our courses and workshops, we combine high-quality teaching with a curriculum that is continually adapted to the ongoing development of our dance students; alongside building up a stage repertoire, this curriculum regularly assesses and expands their stylistic aesthetics, musical and rhythmic precision, and technical skills. In doing so, we remain committed to the authenticity of personal expression.
Regular performances enable our dancers to get a taste of the stage, to experience the process described above on a deep personal level, and to gradually develop their stage presence.
Our regular courses also provide an excellent foundation for further dance training - for example, American tap is an integral part of a solid musical theatre education. Irish dancing continues to be neglected at most universities of the performing arts - so we are filling this gap ourselves and, in collaboration with the Irish National Folk Company in Dublin, offer a training programme to become an Irish dancing instructor.
